Air Force Researchers Test Plasma Reactor to Destroy Contaminants in Groundwater

Source: https://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/air-force-research-tests-plasma-reactor-to-destroy-contaminants-in-groundwater/

Civilian researchers completed a two-week field demonstration here Sept. 25 using an innovative plasma technology to degrade and destroy perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorooctanoic acid, known as PFOS and PFOA, in groundwater.
This was the first field demonstration of the Enhanced Contact Plasma Reactor, conducted under an Air Force Civil Engineer Center contract with primary contractor Clarkson University and teaming partner GSI Environmental.
Clarkson and GSI were awarded this research project to demonstrate effectiveness of a plasma reactor for the treatment of water containing PFOS and PFOA. Wright-Patterson AFB was the installation chosen for the field demonstration.

Scientists Have Developed The Most Efficient Water-Splitting Catalyst Yet

Source: https://www.sciencealert.com/new-water-splitting-methods-could-unlock-hydrogen-s-green-energy-potential

Scientists just found a new way to split water into hydrogen and oxygen that’s cheap and effective – and it could mean we’re able to produce an abundance of clean hydrogen fuel in the future.
Hydrogen is a fantastic source for clean energy, but the challenge is making enough of it to be efficient and practical price. A newly developed catalyst now reportedly addresses both issues, boasting more efficiency for a lower cost than existing solutions – and it can run for 20 hours straight.
